Week 5, Business Assessment

I chose to assess Tapteal Native Plants, a local native plant nursery. They have a website, as well as Facebook and Instagram pages. Since the business focuses on native plants, their location and service area are important. They serve the Columbia Basin region of Washington. I think the Tapteal Native Plants website effectively communicates the company’s offerings and values. Right on the homepage, you see their logo, business name, a brief statement highlighting their focus on native plants, and a beautiful image showcasing some of these plants. At the top of Tapteal’s homepage, the navigation menu and logo are prominently displayed, making it easy for users to find key pages, like the seed shop, consulting and design services, and guides for caring for native plants. The middle section immediately communicates the company’s core focus on native plants, followed by highlights of their plant selection, services, and a brief 'About Us' section. At the bottom, you’ll find links ...

Week 4 Digital Natives & Digital Immigrants

In Prensky's article, he defines the terms "digital natives" and "digital immigrants," highlighting how they differ from each other. Digital natives are people who have grown up surrounded by technology. They prefer to receive information quickly, favor graphics over text, and thrive on instant gratification, such as rewards in gaming systems. On the other hand, digital immigrants are individuals who were taught in a more traditional, step-by-step manner and adopted technology later in life, after the digital age began. The problem arises when digital immigrant instructors teach digital native students; these instructors often believe that multitasking hinders learning, that learning shouldn't be fun, and fail to recognize the skills digital natives have developed through constant interaction with technology. This leads to digital natives becoming disinterested in what's being taught and often being criticized for not paying attention.  Kirschner, howeve...

Knapp's Relational Model

Honestly, taking this class has opened my eyes a bit and made me rethink about all my past relationships.  I was extroverted during high school and halfway through WSU in Pullman. Now, I am much more introverted and have stayed connected with only a few people. One of those people is my friend Aaron, whom I consider a good friend. We've been friends for about 10 years. Initiating Stage: We initially met through a mutual friend, AJ, when I went to WSU. I lived on the same floor as AJ during my first year, and we would often hop online to play games like League of Legends , Guild Wars 2 , and World of Warcraft . Aaron was one of AJ’s friends from back home, so he introduced me to his group of friends that he played with online. Experimenting Stage: Over the years, Aaron and I became much closer, playing more games together with him and his partner. We started hopping on voice calls, talking about what's going on in our lives every other weekend. Intensifying Stage: Aaron became...

Week 2 Discussion

Do different social networking sites offer other benefits and drawbacks?   I believe that different social networks offer both benefits and drawbacks. The first one that comes to mind for me is Facebook. While I don't use Facebook, I understand the benefits it provides for communicating with family members who live in other countries. For instance, my parents use Facebook to stay connected with relatives in Mexico. Before SNS, they would have to buy prepaid cards that would allow them to call numbers in Mexico. With Facebook and WhatsApp, that was no longer necessary. A drawback I see with Facebook is the spread of misinformation. I always have to remind my father not to blindly believe everything posted there and to take things with a grain of salt.   Another social network is Instagram, which I still use. It’s similar to Facebook in that you can stay connected with friends and family members. However, a downside is the potential for addiction to the validatio...

Hello everyone, I currently reside in the Tri-Cities area in Eastern Washington and am working towards a degree in horticulture. My goal is to work in a plant nursery or in a field related to native plant growth in the Pacific Northwest. As for my hobbies, I enjoy gardening. I am currently growing vegetables like tomatoes, various types of chilies, melons, and watermelons. I also grow flowers such as lilies, sunflowers, and marigolds. All the lilies I had towards the end of July Group of lilies earlier in the year Another hobby of mine is skateboarding, which I recently picked up again after being away from it for a few years. I enjoy listening to music, though my taste is kind of scattered all over the place and depends heavily on my mood and the time of year. I also enjoy photoshopping, primarily for creating memes and other wacky photos. I'm currently in my Frutiger Aero phase, editing photos with a Frutiger Aero aesthetic. In terms of online communication, I would like to lear...
